Koodali, an important village in Kannur district, was once a part of the Kottayam princely state of King Veera Kerala Varma Pazhashiraja. Thatyode land was under the jurisdiction of a house under Koodali. This land is now in Koodali village in Koodali Grama Panchayat. It is the land of the people who adopted agriculture as a way of life in the richness of the agrarian culture. Koodali is the karma land of the Yogi greats and Yoginimata.
The temple is located at a distance of 1 km from Koodali Bazaar. In the distance. In ancient times, this place was known as Molothum Chal. There are family names in the area such as Thazhe Math, Melchira and Kanapram. It is said that a temple that used to give omnipotence to the country was destroyed by some social miscreants 450 years ago.
Shri Bakkalam Raveendran, Shri M.K. Parameswaran Namboothiri led the discussion. The temple ruins were found while excavating at the site as per their instructions. When the manikinar was dug up in the ground and its bottom was dug, the Chaturbahu idol of Lord Vishnu was found. At this stage it was decided to conduct a detailed Ashtamangalyam problem solving and it was held on 21st, 22nd and 23rd February 2000. It was realized that the deity worshiped was Lord Vishnu himself and that the appearance of Lord Krishna in the temple was important. It is believed that the idol was worshiped about 1300 years ago and that the temple was destroyed 450 years ago due to rivalry and war between the people. It was decided to start the construction work of the Shri Mahavishnu Temple at Thatto to bring prosperity to the country and the natives by bringing relief to the distressed. Kottungal Bhaskaran donated 18 cents of land for the construction of the temple. The temple then got the land for the temple for free and paid by many.

കൂടാളി ബസാറിൽ നിന്ന് ഒരു കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രം.പുരാതന കാലത്ത് ഈ സ്ഥലം മൊളോത്തും ചാൽ എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. താഴെ മഠം, മേൽച്ചിറ, കാനപ്രം തുടങ്ങിയ കുടുംബപ്പേരുകൾ പ്രദേശത്ത് ഉണ്ട്. നാടിന് സർവ്വാധികാരം നൽകിയിരുന്ന ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രം 450 വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് ചില സാമൂഹ്യദ്രോഹികൾ നശിപ്പിച്ചതായി പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
. ദുരിതബാധിതർക്ക് ആശ്വാസമേകി നാടിനും നാട്ടുകാർക്കും ഐശ്വര്യം കൊണ്ടുവരാൻ തട്ടോട് ശ്രീ മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ നിർമാണ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ആരംഭിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. കോട്ടുങ്ങൽ ഭാസ്‌കരൻ ക്ഷേത്രനിർമാണത്തിനായി 18 സെന്റ് സ്ഥലം സംഭാവന നൽകി. തുടർന്ന് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് സൗജന്യമായി പലരും പണം നൽകി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് സ്ഥലം ലഭിച്ചു.
