Tali temple is one of the oldest temples in Kozhikode. It is believed that the lingam in the sanctum of the Temple was installed towards the end of Dwaparayuga by Sri. Parasurama. The main prathishta is Sivan and Krishnan. Narasimhamoorthy also there. Tali Kshetram is an ancient temple in the heart of Kozhikode town. Lord Shiva is the presiding deity. The Jyothirlingam in the Sanctum Sanctorum is believed to have been installed by Lord Parasuraman. The temple is one km to the east of Kozhikode railway station. It is surrounded by the Palayam market. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple. There is a strict dress code in the Temple. Men have to wear mundu. Mundus are available on rent with a nominal fee and New Mundus are also available. Women should wear saree or salwar kameez. Young girls are permitted to use long skirts with blouses.
This was the family temple of the Zamorins who had ruled Kozhikode. Although the temple is now under Malabar Devaswom, the Zamorin is the managing trustee.
The temple is built in traditional Kerala architectural style. The two-storied sanctum-sanctorum is in the shape of a chariot. It is adorned with murals and granite sculptures of Lord Shiva’s retinue. Inside Sree Kovil deities of Tali Ganapathy, Thevarathil Ganapathy and Thrumandhakunnu Bhagavathy are installed. Sree Krishna, Thevarathil Bhagavathy, Lord Ayyappa, Sri Vishnu and Nagam are installed outside Shiva Temple. Sree Valayanad Bhagavati idol is installed inside Sree Krishna Temple. There is a small Narasimha Moorthy temple on the southern side of the Sri Vishnu Temple.
കോഴിക്കോട്ടെ ഏറ്റവും പഴക്കം ചെന്ന ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് തളി ക്ഷേത്രം.. ശിവനും കൃഷ്ണനുമാണ് പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. നരസിംഹമൂർത്തിയും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കോഴിക്കോട് നഗരത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയഭാഗത്തുള്ള ഒരു പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് തളി ക്ഷേത്രം. പരമശിവനാണ് അധിപൻ. ശ്രീകോവിലിലെ ജ്യോതിർലിംഗം ഭഗവാൻ പരശുരാമൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചതാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കോഴിക്കോട് റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്ന് ഒരു കിലോമീറ്റർ കിഴക്കാണ് ക്ഷേത്രം. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനുള്ളിൽ ഹിന്ദുക്കൾക്ക് മാത്രമേ പ്രവേശനമുള്ളൂ. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കർശനമായ വസ്ത്രധാരണരീതിയുണ്ട്. ആണുങ്ങൾ മുണ്ട് ഉടുക്കണം. നാമമാത്രമായ ഫീസിൽ മുണ്ടുകൾ വാടകയ്ക്ക് ലഭ്യമാണ്, കൂടാതെ പുതിയ മുണ്ടുകളും ലഭ്യമാണ്. സ്ത്രീകൾ സാരിയോ സൽവാർ കമീസോ ധരിക്കണം. ചെറുപ്പക്കാരായ പെൺകുട്ടികൾക്ക് ബ്ലൗസുകളുള്ള നീണ്ട പാവാടകൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കാൻ അനുവാദമുണ്ട്.
കോഴിക്കോട് ഭരിച്ചിരുന്ന സാമൂതിരിമാരുടെ കുടുംബക്ഷേത്രമായിരുന്നു ഇത്. ക്ഷേത്രം ഇപ്പോൾ മലബാർ ദേവസ്വത്തിന്റെ കീഴിലാണെങ്കിലും സാമൂതിരിയാണ് മാനേജിംഗ് ട്രസ്റ്റി.
പരമ്പരാഗത കേരളീയ വാസ്തുവിദ്യാ ശൈലിയിലാണ് ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. രണ്ട് നിലകളുള്ള ശ്രീകോവിൽ രഥത്തിന്റെ ആകൃതിയിലാണ്. ശിവന്റെ പരിവാരത്തിന്റെ ചുവർചിത്രങ്ങളും കരിങ്കൽ ശിൽപങ്ങളും കൊണ്ട് അലങ്കരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.. ശ്രീ വിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ തെക്കുഭാഗത്തായി ഒരു ചെറിയ നരസിംഹമൂർത്തി ക്ഷേത്രമുണ്ട്.
