Ayyarvattom Maha Sudarshana Temple is one of the rare temples dedicated to Sudarshana idol (the weapon of Lord Vishnu) which is worshipped as Lord Vishnu. Chamundi Devi is also present here with equal strength. Lord Ganapathy , Ayyappan and Devi are also present here. The annual six-day temple festival falls on the Aswathy asterism in the Malayalam month of Dhanu (December- January). The temple is located at Eravannur in Kozhikode.Therefore many worsipers from various parts of the country visit the temple and give their offerings in order to get their wishes fulfilled. The main asset of the temple is the unstinted co- operation extended by the worshippers and the local people.
Hundred of worshippers are visiting the temple every day. During festival days thousand of worshipers reach the temple. During Sundays there is big rush of worshipers in the temple. During these days breakfast is arranged as offerings of the worshippers. Giving food at least for one and participating in Annadhanam during festival days is considered as a great holy act.
There are two opinions on whether this 4000 year old temple was under Porlathiri Raja or Kurumbanad Raja. In those days it is said that kings used to worshipSudharsana Bhagavan who is also the god of destruction , for victory in war and they had won wars due to the blessings of the ‘ Bhagavan’
മഹാവിഷ്ണുവായി ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന സുദർശന വിഗ്രഹം (വിഷ്ണുവിന്റെ ആയുധം) പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുള്ള അപൂർവ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് അയർവട്ടം മഹാ സുദർശന ക്ഷേത്രം. ചാമുണ്ഡി ദേവിയും തുല്യ ശക്തിയോടെ ഇവിടെയുണ്ട്. ഗണപതി, അയ്യപ്പൻ, ദേവി എന്നിവരും ഇവിടെയുണ്ട്. ആറ് ദിവസത്തെ ക്ഷേത്രോത്സവം മലയാള മാസമായ ധനുവിലെ (ഡിസംബർ-ജനുവരി) അശ്വതി നക്ഷത്രത്തിലാണ് വരുന്നത്. കോഴിക്കോട് എരവന്നൂരിലാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. അതിനാൽ രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള നിരവധി ആരാധകർ ക്ഷേത്രം സന്ദർശിക്കുകയും തങ്ങളുടെ ആഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ നിറവേറ്റുന്നതിനായി തങ്ങളുടെ വഴിപാടുകൾ നൽകുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന സമ്പത്ത് വിശ്വാസികളും നാട്ടുകാരും നൽകുന്ന നിർലോഭമായ സഹകരണമാണ്.
ദിവസവും നൂറുകണക്കിന് വിശ്വാസികളാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്തുന്നത്. ഉത്സവദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് വിശ്വാസികളാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്തുന്നത്. ഞായറാഴ്ചകളിൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഭക്തരുടെ വലിയ തിരക്കാണ്. ഈ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ പ്രഭാതഭക്ഷണം ഭക്തരുടെ വഴിപാടായി ക്രമീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഉത്സവദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ഒരാൾക്കെങ്കിലും അന്നദാനം നടത്തുകയും അന്നദാനത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നത് മഹത്തായ പുണ്യ കർമ്മമായാണ് കണക്കാക്കുന്നത്.
4000 വർഷം പഴക്കമുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പോർളാത്തിരി രാജയുടെ കീഴിലായിരുന്നോ കുറുമ്പനാട് രാജാവിന്റെ കീഴിലായിരുന്നോ എന്ന കാര്യത്തിൽ ഇപ്പോഴും രണ്ട് അഭിപ്രായമുണ്ട്.
