Temple located at Methala village near Perumbavoor of Ernakulam district in Kerala. Goddess Durga worshipped here as main deity. The temple, located in a 28-acre (113,000 m²) plot, is cut from a huge rock, and a climb of 120 steps leads to the temple. To reach the temple one has to travel a distance of about 2 km from Odakkali, on the Aluva Munnar Road and 10 km from Perumbavoor. The temple is owned by the Kallil Pisharody family. The present Karanavar of the family turned over all the administrative control of the temple and all its belongings to 'Chenkottukonam Sree Ramadasashramam'. But all that retrieved back due to some hassle between local people and Ashram authorities.

Perumbavoor is famous for its stone Bhagavathi Temple, which can be reached by crossing over a hundred steps in the jungle. The temple is said to be over five thousand years old and is marked by Perumbavoor on the temple map. It is now preserved as a protected monument under the Archaeological Department.
This temple is also known as the Kallil Cave Temple. The Goddess is enshrined in a cave made of stone. As it is a cave temple, it is not possible to walk around behind the shrine like in normal temples. Therefore, when circling Bhagwati, the circumambulation is completed by bowing to the stone.There is ample evidence that this was a Jain temple in the early days. The idols of Parshvanath and Mahavira in Jainism have become idols of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
The festival is celebrated on the Karthika day in the month of Scorpio. The festival lasts for eight days.
Until a few days ago, it was customary to walk after noon pooja.
This was due to the difficulty of returning so far for evening poojas. But now even though the walk is closed for noon pooja, the walk is reopened for evening devotional and Athazha pooja.

കാട്ടിൽ നൂറിലധികം പടികൾ കടന്നാൽ എത്തിച്ചേരാവുന്ന കല്ലുകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് പേരുകേട്ടതാണ് പെരുമ്പാവൂർ. അയ്യായിരം വർഷത്തിലേറെ പഴക്കമുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് ക്ഷേത്രഭൂപടത്തിൽ പെരുമ്പാവൂർ എന്ന് അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. പുരാവസ്തു വകുപ്പിന്റെ കീഴിലുള്ള സംരക്ഷിത സ്മാരകമായി ഇത് ഇപ്പോൾ സംരക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഗുഹാക്ഷേത്രം
കല്ലിൽ ഗുഹാക്ഷേത്രം എന്നും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. കല്ലുകൊണ്ട് നിർമ്മിച്ച ഒരു ഗുഹയിലാണ് ദേവിയെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഗുഹാക്ഷേത്രമായതിനാൽ സാധാരണ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലേതുപോലെ ശ്രീകോവിലിനു പിന്നിൽ പ്രദക്ഷിണം നടത്താനാവില്ല. അതിനാൽ, ഭഗവതിയെ വലംവയ്ക്കുമ്പോൾ, കല്ലിൽ വണങ്ങിയാണ് പ്രദക്ഷിണം പൂർത്തിയാക്കുന്നത്.ഇത് ആദ്യകാലങ്ങളിൽ ജൈനക്ഷേത്രമായിരുന്നു എന്നതിന് നിരവധി തെളിവുകളുണ്ട്. ജൈനമതത്തിലെ പാർശ്വനാഥന്റെയും മഹാവീരന്റെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ ശിവന്റെയും വിഷ്ണുവിന്റെയും വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളായി മാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
പൂജാ സമയം
വൃശ്ചികമാസത്തിലെ കാർത്തിക നാളിലാണ് ഉത്സവം. എട്ട് ദിവസമാണ് ഉത്സവം.
ഏതാനും ദിവസം മുമ്പ് വരെ ഉച്ചപൂജ കഴിഞ്ഞ് നടയടയ്ക്കുന്ന പതിവുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. വൈകുന്നേരത്തെ പൂജകൾക്കായി ഇത്രയും ദൂരം തിരിച്ചുപോകാനുള്ള ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടാണ് കാരണം. എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ ഉച്ചപൂജയ്ക്കായി നട അടച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും വൈകിട്ട് അത്താഴപൂജയ്ക്കായി വീണ്ടും നട തുറക്കുന്നു.
