Kerala can boast of innumerable ancient temples. Among them Purandareswarath Sree Mahadeva Temple is unique. Located at about a kilometer to the east of Thuravoor Junction, the newly proposed Thuravoor Pampa road lies in front of this temple junction, this temple is the lone Siva temple in Thuravoor village consisting of four desoms. It is one of the ancient Siva temple in Cherthala Taluk – the erstwhile Karappuram. The area where the temple is located, in ancient times was believed to be a brahmin village inhabited by brahmin families. Purandareswara was the patron deity worshipped by the prominent brahmin families of the area like Nedumpurath, Thevalapozhil, Kainikkara, Pallikkeezhil, Naranath, Vadakke Narayana Mangalam etc.. The ownership of the temple was bestowed on the priestly family of Puthanchira Mekkali Mana of Thrissur district. In 1977 April 7th, the owners of the temple entrusted the temple administration with the Valamangalam North NSS Karayogam No.759
Legend has it that a holy Brahmin bound for Vaikom to participate in the “Vaikathashtami” and to have “Ashtami Darsan”, could reach only up to Purandareswarath. Heart –broken at the thought of is failure to reach Vaikom in time and to have Ashtami – Darshan, he cried and prayed Lord Siva in penitence. Lord Siva heard his passionate prayer and emerged before him in all his charismatic grace. Later that Siva grace was identified by Sri. Vilvamangalathu Swamiyar, the seer and saint of ancient Kerala and he enshrined it in the round-shaped abode of the temple. The temple is empowered by the eminent thanthry family of the famous Tharananalloor mana, who got the blessings of Parasuraman.
Nandikeshan the holy vehicle of Lord Siva is seated in front of the Sanctum Sanctorum facing to the west. Holy “Abhishekam” is conducted every day to Nandikeshan before the opening of Mahadevans Sreekovil.
Lord Ganesha is positioned on the right side outside the Sreekovil. Holy “Abhishekam” is conducted every day, before opening of Sreekovil. Poomala (Garlands), Karukamala are offered to this deity. “Ganapathy Homam” is conducted every day to Lord Ganesha. “Ashtadravya Ganapathy Homam” is conducted on special occations like Vinayaka Chathurthi and during annual festival. During the opening of first malayalam Year (Chingam 1) “Mahaganapathy Homam” is conducted with the co-operation of devotees.
A special shrine, outside the valiyambalam on the right bottom angle facing east is situated, where four deities in” Kannadi Prathishtas” are located. Lord Sastha, Durgadevi,Vellam bhagavathy, Anthimahakalan are those four deities. More importance is given to Lord Sastha – the Saneeswaran. On Saturdays thousands of devotees offer Ellukizhi, Neeranjanam and Ellunivedyam to Lord Ayyappa. During the Mandalam Makaravilakku season thousands of Ayyappa devotees arrive here for wearing the ceremonial mala and kettu nira. Special Deeparadhana for Lord Ayyappa and other deities are conducted for fouty one days of Mandalam
Outside the temple compound, on the south west corner Nagaraja-Nagayakshi-Sarpa devatas are seated. Earlier the Nagaraja and Nagayakshi were seated along with Lord Ayyappa and other three deities. From the findings of ashtamangala prasna conducted on 27th March 1995, a new Sarppakavu was reconstructed and the Sarppa prathishta and Sarpabali were performed on October 7th, 8th and 9th ,1995 under the leadership of Pambummekkad Brahmasree Sreedharan Namboothiri. Thalichukoda (Noorum Palum) vazhipadu is offered here on the anniversary day of Sarppa Prathishta – (Revathy star of Kanni Masam).
On the central back position of Lord Mahadevan, outside the main temple a small construction is arranged and Yakshi amma in the form of Naga vigraha is seated here. It is believed that this Yakshi had immence power for destruction and her power was diminished by Lord Mahadevans holy shrine positioned just in front of the Yakshi. Yakshi Pooja, Varapodi Nivedyam are the main offerings (Vazhipadu).
Brahma rakshassu is also one of the upa devatas of the temple. This deity is worshipped by special padma pooja by the temple priest inside the thidappally. Paalppayasam is main offering.
The main festival of the temple is the 8th day annual Sivarathri festival in kumbha masa. The Kodiyettam is conducted prior to the eighth day of karuthavavu. Under the auspicious leadership of Tharananalloor and Tanniyil Mathiyathu Mana Namboothiries Prasadasudhi , Asthrakalasa pooja, Rakshokhna homam, Vasthu homam, Vasthukalasa pooja, Vasthubali, Vasthu kalasam, Chathur Sudhi, Dhara, Panchagavyam, Panchakam karmas are conducted for the rejuvenation of Lord Mahadeva. The holy “Kodikkayar” is brought ceremonially by the traditional “Muriyamkeril family” authorised for preparing the kodikkayar with all sacredness and vrithas from very ancient times. After the flag hoisting ceremony (Thrikodiyettu) kodiyettu sadya (Annadanam) is conducted every year.”Sreebhoothabali” is conducted on all festival days. Ulsavabali is also conducted during the festival days, as vazhipadu by devotees. During the festival days Seeveli Ezhunnallathu is performed during morning and evening on the top of an Elephant. After athazhapooja vilakkinezhunnallathu is also conducted at night. Lord Purandareswara visits the ancient Brahmin manas – Thevalapozhil in Valamangalam South, Naranathu and Pallikkeezhil in Thuravoor South and Kainikkara mana of Thuravoor North during the festival days and special Erakkipoojas are conducted in these manas. Lord Purandareswara on the way to Manakkal Pooja of Kainikkara mana will also visit Lord Vadakkanappan of Thuravoor Mahakshethram. Kheeradhra’s are conducted on the second day of the festival and on the Mahasivarathri day. The early morning session of Mahasivarathry begins with Ashtabhishekam, Deepakazhcha and Chuttuvilakku. Thousand of devotees arrive here to get the holy darsan of Purandareswarathappan. The Maha Annadanam for all devotees arriving here is conducted on auspicious day of Mahasivarathri. The Mahanaivedya vazhipadu is conducted by Valamangalam North 759 NSS Karayogam. Mahasivarathri pooja conducted during midnight is attended by thousands participating in Sivarathri Noyambu. This Noyambu is concluded only after accepting the abhisheka theertham during this midnight pooja. The holy deity of Purandareswaram with all floral and ornamental decorations is taken for Mahsivarathri Vilakku. The holy “Aarattu” is held in the temple pond in front of the temple.From the first day of the festival, Nirapara offerings are done in front of the kodimaram
Recalling the temple history demonstrating a philosophic Darshana to a Brahmin pandit, the Ashtami Darshanam is celebrated on the auspicious “Vaikkathashtami day” which comes in Vrishchika month of Malayalam era. Thousands of devotees arrive here on the early morning hours of Ashtami to receive the Holy Darshanam.
The tenth day of Medam known as Pathamudayam is celebrated here with all traditional proceedings. Udayam Pooja – the holy offering of the common man for peace, prosperity and agricultural blessings is done at this holy shrine. The famous ezhunnallathu of Lord Narasimhamoorthy (Vadakkanappan) of Thuravoor to visit the arrival place of the Lord at Sreebhoothanilam is celebrated on this auspicious day. Lord Purandareswarathappan also accompanied Vadakkanappan and Thekkanappan in this Pathamudayam Ezhunnallathu to Sreebhoothanilam, but years back this custom was stopped. During the Ashtamangala Prasna this custom was revealed and the astrologers predicted that “Bhagavan” has a “Gamanam” to southern side in pathamudayam day
The holy star of Mahadevan – “Thiruvathira” of Dhanu maasa is celebrated with all traditional rituals. “Thiruvathirakali” is conducted by Lady Worshippers on the Makayiram night. Special offerings like “Saisyam” are conducted on this day. It is to be noted that the famous “Thiruvathira Sandhyavela” festival of Thuravoor Mahakshethram is conducted under the Valamangalam North NSS Karayogam, who are the administrations of this Purandareswaram Temple.
Thuravoor kara, in ancient times was a Brahmin village inhabited by Brahmin families. These families were the owners of the temple in this kara. Among them are Thuravoor Mahakshethram, Purandareswaram Mahakshethram, Thiruvenkita Puram. The famous “Kootti Ezhunnallathu” of Thuravoor temple during the Deepavali day is attended by thousands of devotees. The main “Devan” among other four deities is Purandareswarath Mahadevan. Apart from Narasimhamoorthy and Mahasudarsanamoorthy the main deities of Thuravoor temple other among the participating deities – Lord Krishna of Thiruvenkidapuram, Lord Krishna of Pattathalil, Lord Krishna of Mannath and Lord Krishna of Kainikkara and Lord Mahadevan of Purandareswaram. Purandareswarathappan is the only in Saiva sect. and is positioned west to Lord Narasimha in this Kootti Ezhunnallath
The first day of Malayalam era (Aandupirappu), Vinayaka Chathurthy, Thiruvonam, Sarppa Prathishta anniversary (Revathi star in Kanni), Durgashtami-Mahanavami-Vijayadashami – Navarathri Pooja Festival, Mandala pooja festival commencing from Vrischikam 1 to 41 days, Makarasankramam, Vishukkani darshanam in Meda masam, the installation anniversary (Atham star in the month of Mithunam) – Kalabhabhishekam, Ramayanamasam (Karkkidakam), Karkkidaka Vavu (Namaskaram offerings to the departed souls), Niraputhari are the other important festivals. Ramayanam recital in poetry form is offered on all Karkkidakam days. A Sampoorna Ramayana Parayanam is conducted here on 15th of August every year under the Akhila Bharatha Ayyappa Seva Sanghom, Purandareswaram Branch. Ganapathi Homam and Bhagavathi Seva are conducted in all the Karkidakam days. Thousands of children arrive here on the Durgashtami day with book bundles for the Saraswathi Pooja arranged in special Navarathri Mandapam. Children at the age of 3 and 4 arrive here for their beginning of education (Ezhuthiniruthu) on the auspicious Vijayadashami day. എണ്ണമറ്റ പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ച് കേരളത്തിന് അഭിമാനിക്കാം. അവയിൽ പുരന്ദരേശ്വരത്ത് ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം സവിശേഷമാണ്. തുറവൂർ ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം ഒരു കിലോമീറ്റർ കിഴക്ക് മാറി, പുതുതായി നിർദ്ദേശിച്ച തുറവൂർ പമ്പ റോഡ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്ര ജംഗ്ഷന് മുന്നിലാണ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്, ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം തുറവൂർ ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ നാല് ദശാസന്ധികൾ അടങ്ങുന്ന ഏക ശിവക്ഷേത്രമാണ്. ചേർത്തല താലൂക്കിലെ പുരാതന ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണിത് - പഴയ കരപ്പുറം. ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രദേശം പുരാതന കാലത്ത് ബ്രാഹ്മണ കുടുംബങ്ങൾ അധിവസിച്ചിരുന്ന ഒരു ബ്രാഹ്മണ ഗ്രാമമാണെന്നാണ് വിശ്വസിച്ചിരുന്നത്. നെടുമ്പുറത്ത്, തേവലപ്പൊഴിൽ, കൈനിക്കര, പള്ളിക്കീഴിൽ, നാറാണത്ത്, വടക്കേ നാരായണമംഗലം തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രദേശത്തെ പ്രമുഖ ബ്രാഹ്മണകുടുംബങ്ങൾ ആരാധിച്ചിരുന്ന രക്ഷാധികാരി പുരന്ദരേശ്വരനായിരുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഉടമസ്ഥാവകാശം തൃശൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ പുത്തൻചിറ മേക്കാലി മനയിലെ പൗരോഹിത്യ കുടുംബത്തിനായിരുന്നു. 1977 ഏപ്രിൽ 7ന് ക്ഷേത്രം ഉടമകൾ വളമംഗലം നോർത്ത് എൻഎസ്എസ് കരയോഗം നമ്പർ 759 ക്ഷേത്രഭരണത്തെ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു.
വൈക്കത്തഷ്ടമിയിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കാനും അഷ്ടമി ദർശനം നടത്താനും വൈക്കത്തേക്ക് പോകുന്ന ഒരു വിശുദ്ധ ബ്രാഹ്മണന് പുരന്ദരേശ്വരത്ത് വരെ മാത്രമേ എത്തിച്ചേരാനാകൂ എന്നാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം. കൃത്യസമയത്ത് വൈക്കത്ത് എത്താനും അഷ്ടമി ദർശനം നടത്താനും സാധിച്ചില്ലല്ലോ എന്നോർത്ത് ഹൃദയം തകർന്ന അദ്ദേഹം കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് തപസ്സുചെയ്ത് ശിവനെ പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു. പരമശിവൻ അവന്റെ വികാരാധീനമായ പ്രാർത്ഥന കേട്ടു, അവന്റെ എല്ലാ കരിസ്മാറ്റിക് കൃപയോടെയും അവന്റെ മുമ്പിൽ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു. പിന്നീട് ആ ശിവകൃപ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞത് ശ്രീ. പ്രാചീന കേരളത്തിലെ ദർശകനും സന്യാസിയുമായ വില്വമംഗലത്തു സ്വാമിയാരും അദ്ദേഹം അത് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ വൃത്താകൃതിയിലുള്ള വാസസ്ഥലത്ത് പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു. പരശുരാമന്റെ അനുഗ്രഹം ലഭിച്ച പ്രസിദ്ധ തരണനല്ലൂർ മനയിലെ പ്രമുഖ തന്ത്രി കുടുംബമാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് ശക്തി പകരുന്നത്.
ശിവന്റെ വാഹനമായ നന്ദികേശൻ ശ്രീകോവിലിനു മുന്നിൽ പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ട് ദർശനമായി ഇരിക്കുന്നു. മഹാദേവൻ ശ്രീകോവിൽ തുറക്കുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ് എല്ലാ ദിവസവും നന്ദികേശന് വിശുദ്ധ "അഭിഷേകം" നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
ശ്രീകോവിലിനു പുറത്ത് വലതുവശത്താണ് ഗണപതി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ശ്രീകോവിൽ തുറക്കുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ് എല്ലാ ദിവസവും വിശുദ്ധ "അഭിഷേകം" നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. പൂമാല (മാല), കറുകമാല എന്നിവ ഈ ദേവന് സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നു. എല്ലാ ദിവസവും ഗണപതിക്ക് "ഗണപതി ഹോമം" നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. "അഷ്ടദ്രവ്യ ഗണപതി ഹോമം" വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി പോലുള്ള പ്രത്യേക അവസരങ്ങളിലും വാർഷിക ഉത്സവ സമയത്തും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ഒന്നാം മലയാളം വർഷം (ചിങ്ങം 1) ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന സമയത്ത് "മഹാഗണപതി ഹോമം" ഭക്തരുടെ സഹകരണത്തോടെ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
വലിയമ്പലത്തിന് പുറത്ത് വലത് കോണിൽ കിഴക്കോട്ട് അഭിമുഖമായി ഒരു പ്രത്യേക ശ്രീകോവിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു, അവിടെ "കണ്ണാടി പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളിൽ" നാല് ദേവതകൾ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ശാസ്താവ്, ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവി, വെള്ളം ഭഗവതി, അന്തിമഹാകാളൻ എന്നിവരാണ് ആ നാല് പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ. ശനീശ്വരനായ ശാസ്താവിനാണ് കൂടുതൽ പ്രാധാന്യം. ശനിയാഴ്ചകളിൽ ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് ഭക്തർ അയ്യപ്പന് എള്ളുക്കിഴി, നീരാഞ്ജനം, എള്ളുനിവേദ്യം എന്നിവ സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മണ്ഡലം മകരവിളക്ക് കാലത്ത് ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് അയ്യപ്പഭക്തരാണ് ആചാരപരമായ മാലയും കെട്ടുനിറയും ധരിച്ച് ഇവിടെയെത്തുന്നത്. മണ്ഡലത്തിലെ നാൽപ്പത്തിയൊന്ന് ദിവസം അയ്യപ്പനും മറ്റു ദേവന്മാർക്കും പ്രത്യേക ദീപാരാധന നടത്തുന്നു
ക്ഷേത്രവളപ്പിന് പുറത്ത് തെക്ക് പടിഞ്ഞാറെ മൂലയിൽ നാഗരാജ-നാഗയക്ഷി-സർപ്പ ദേവതകൾ ഇരിക്കുന്നു. നേരത്തെ നാഗരാജാവും നാഗയക്ഷിയും അയ്യപ്പനും മറ്റ് മൂന്ന് ദേവതകൾക്കും ഒപ്പം ഇരുന്നു. 1995 മാർച്ച് 27 ന് നടത്തിയ അഷ്ടമംഗലപ്രശ്നത്തിന്റെ കണ്ടെത്തലുകളിൽ നിന്ന് പുതിയ സർപ്പക്കാവ് പുനർനിർമ്മിക്കുകയും 1995 ഒക്ടോബർ 7, 8, 9 തീയതികളിൽ പാമ്പുമ്മേക്കാട് ബ്രഹ്മശ്രീ ശ്രീധരൻ നമ്പൂതിരിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ സർപ്പപ്രതിഷ്ഠയും സർപ്പബലിയും നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. സർപ്പപ്രതിഷ്ഠയുടെ വാർഷിക ദിനത്തിൽ തളിച്ചുകൊട (നൂറും പാലും) വഴിപാട് ഇവിടെ സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നു - (കന്നി മാസത്തിലെ രേവതി നക്ഷത്രം).
മഹാദേവന്റെ മധ്യഭാഗത്തായി, പ്രധാന ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് പുറത്ത് ഒരു ചെറിയ നിർമ്മിതി ക്രമീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, നാഗവിഗ്രഹ രൂപത്തിലുള്ള യക്ഷി അമ്മ ഇവിടെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു. ഈ യക്ഷിക്ക് നശിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള അപാരമായ ശക്തിയുണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെന്നും യക്ഷിയുടെ തൊട്ടുമുമ്പിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന മഹാദേവന്റെ പുണ്യക്ഷേത്രമാണ് അവളുടെ ശക്തി ക്ഷയിച്ചതെന്നും വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. യക്ഷി പൂജ, വരപ്പൊടി നിവേദ്യം എന്നിവയാണ് പ്രധാന വഴിപാടുകൾ (വഴിപാട്).
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉപദേവതകളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ബ്രഹ്മരാക്ഷസ്സു. തിടപ്പള്ളിക്കുള്ളിലെ ക്ഷേത്ര പൂജാരി പ്രത്യേക പത്മപൂജ നടത്തി ഈ ദേവനെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. പാൽപ്പായസമാണ് പ്രധാന വഴിപാട്.
കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ എട്ടാം ദിവസത്തെ ശിവരാത്രി ഉത്സവമാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം. കറുത്തവാവിന്റെ എട്ടാം ദിവസത്തിന് മുന്നോടിയായാണ് കൊടിയേറ്റം നടക്കുന്നത്. തരണനല്ലൂർ, താന്നിയിൽ മതിയത്ത് മന നമ്പൂതിരിമാരുടെ മുഖ്യകാർമികത്വത്തിൽ പ്രസാദശുദ്ധി, അസ്ത്രകലശ പൂജ, രക്ഷോഖന ഹോമം, വാസ്തു ഹോമം, വാസ്തുകലശ പൂജ, വാസ്തുബലി, വാസ്തുകലശം, ചതുര് ശുദ്ധി, ധാര, പഞ്ചഗവ്യം, പഞ്ചഗവ്യം, പഞ്ചഗവ്യം, പഞ്ചഗവ്യം, പഞ്ചഗവ്യം പുനഃപ്രതിഷ്ഠ എന്നിവ നടന്നു. വളരെ പുരാതന കാലം മുതലേ എല്ലാ പവിത്രതയോടും വൃതത്തോടും കൂടി കൊടിക്കയറിനെ ഒരുക്കുന്നതിന് അധികാരമുള്ള പരമ്പരാഗത “മുറിയംകേരിൽ” കുടുംബമാണ് വിശുദ്ധ “കൊടിക്കയർ” ആചാരപരമായി കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നത്. എല്ലാ വർഷവും കൊടിയേറ്റത്തിനു ശേഷം (തൃക്കൊടിയേറ്റ്) കൊടിയേറ്റ് സദ്യ (അന്നദാനം) നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.”ശ്രീഭൂതബലി” എല്ലാ ഉത്സവദിവസങ്ങളിലും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ഉത്സവദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ഭക്തർ വഴിപാടായി ഉൽസവബലി നടത്താറുണ്ട്. ഉത്സവദിവസങ്ങളിൽ രാവിലെയും വൈകുന്നേരവും ആനയുടെ മുകളിൽ ശീവേലി എഴുന്നള്ളത്ത് നടത്തും. അത്താഴപൂജയ്ക്കുശേഷം രാത്രി വിളക്കിനെഴുന്നള്ളത്തും നടക്കും. പുരാതന ബ്രാഹ്മണ മനകളായ വളമംഗലം തെക്ക് തേവലപ്പൊഴിൽ, തുറവൂർ തെക്ക് നാറാണത്ത്, പള്ളിക്കീഴിൽ, തുറവൂർ വടക്ക് കൈനിക്കര മന എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ ഉത്സവദിവസങ്ങളിൽ പുരന്ദരേശ്വരൻ ദർശനം നടത്തുകയും ഈ മനകളിൽ വിശേഷാൽ എറക്കിപൂജകൾ നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. കൈനിക്കര മനയിലെ മനയ്ക്കൽ പൂജയ്ക്ക് പോകുന്ന വഴിയിൽ പുരന്ദരേശ്വരൻ തുറവൂർ മഹാക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വടക്കനപ്പനെയും ദർശിക്കും. ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ രണ്ടാം ദിവസത്തിലും മഹാശിവരാത്രി ദിനത്തിലും ഖീരദ്രാസ് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. അഷ്ടാഭിഷേകം, ദീപക്കാഴ്ച, ചുറ്റുവിളക്ക് എന്നിവയോടെയാണ് മഹാശിവരാത്രിയുടെ അതിരാവിലെ സെഷൻ ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. പുരന്ദരേശ്വരത്തപ്പന്റെ ദർശനം ലഭിക്കാൻ ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് ഭക്തരാണ് ഇവിടെ എത്തുന്നത്. ഇവിടെയെത്തുന്ന എല്ലാ ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്കും മഹാശിവരാത്രി ദിനത്തിൽ മഹാ അന്നദാനം നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. വളമംഗലം നോർത്ത് 759 എൻഎസ്എസ് കരയോഗമാണ് മഹാനൈവേദ്യ വഴിപാട് നടത്തുന്നത്. ശിവരാത്രി നൊയമ്പിൽ അർദ്ധരാത്രിയിൽ നടക്കുന്ന മഹാശിവരാത്രി പൂജയിൽ ആയിരങ്ങൾ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നു. ഈ അർദ്ധരാത്രി പൂജയിൽ അഭിഷേക തീർത്ഥം സ്വീകരിച്ചതിന് ശേഷമാണ് ഈ നോയമ്പ് സമാപിക്കുന്നത്. മഹശിവരാത്രി വിളക്കിന് എല്ലാവിധ പുഷ്പാലങ്കാരങ്ങളോടും കൂടിയ പുരന്ദരേശ്വരത്തിന്റെ പുണ്യപ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണ് എടുക്കുന്നത്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് മുന്നിലെ ക്ഷേത്രക്കുളത്തിലാണ് വിശുദ്ധ ആറാട്ട് നടക്കുന്നത്.കൊടിമരത്തിന് മുന്നിൽ ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യദിവസം മുതൽ നിറപറ വഴിപാട് നടക്കും.
പത്താമുദയം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന മേടത്തിന്റെ പത്താം ദിവസം എല്ലാ പരമ്പരാഗത ചടങ്ങുകളോടും കൂടിയാണ് ഇവിടെ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്. ഉദയം പൂജ - സമാധാനത്തിനും ഐശ്വര്യത്തിനും കാർഷിക അനുഗ്രഹത്തിനും വേണ്ടിയുള്ള സാധാരണക്കാരന്റെ വിശുദ്ധ വഴിപാടാണ് ഈ വിശുദ്ധ ദേവാലയത്തിൽ നടക്കുന്നത്. തുറവൂർ നരസിംഹമൂർത്തിയുടെ (വടക്കണപ്പൻ) പ്രസിദ്ധമായ എഴുന്നള്ളത്ത് ശ്രീഭൂതനിലയത്തിൽ ഭഗവാന്റെ ആഗമനസ്ഥലം ദർശിക്കാൻ ഈ പുണ്യദിനത്തിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ഈ പത്താമുദയം എഴുന്നള്ളത്ത് പുരന്ദരേശ്വരത്തപ്പനും വടക്കനപ്പനെയും തെക്കനപ്പനെയും അനുഗമിച്ച് ശ്രീഭൂതനിലത്തേക്ക് പോയെങ്കിലും വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് ഈ ആചാരം നിലച്ചു. അഷ്ടമംഗലപ്രശ്ന വേളയിൽ ഈ ആചാരം വെളിപ്പെട്ടു, പത്തമുദയം നാളിൽ "ഭഗവാന്" തെക്ക് "ഗമനം" ഉണ്ടെന്ന് ജ്യോതിഷികൾ പ്രവചിച്ചു.
